Over the course of the COVID pandemic, Portland lost its much-beloved and long-standing yearly design festival: Design Week PDX.

Some of us at AIGA’s Portland chapter decided to come together and create something new for Portland’s post-pandemic design community: the PDX Design Festival (PDXDF).

After years of being socially distant from the community we loved, we chose the theme of “connection”. Agency open houses were replaced with community-led experiences of exploration and creation; keynotes became events to come together and learn from the group, instead from just one speaker.

The result was a new annual festival honoring Portland’s rich history of community design festivals, bringing together designers of all disciplines, design enthusiasts, and friends of the design community to celebrate and advance our collective crafts.
